Network connection icons invisible

In the Network Connections folder in Control Panel, the
connections I have set up to the internet have become
invisible. They're still there, the default connection is
still dialled when starting Internet Explorer, but the
connection icon no longer appears in the task bar and you
have to reboot to disconnect.

If you try to create a new connection, the wizard takes
you through the whole way, but when finished the icon for
the new connection only appears for a second before
vanishing. Shortcuts to pre-existing connections still
work, and strangely the icon for my local network is still
visible.

I'm using the Select version of XP Pro with SP1 and all
the latest critical updates.

The culprit is I think a piece of software called
Playonline, a front end for Final Fantasy Online. I've
also logged the problem with their tech support (who
unfortunately are a complete shower of muppets).

I have EXACTLY the same problem. It appeared not too long
ago. I also have Playonline installed.
If you find a resolution, could you please let me know as
well? My e-mail is (e-mail address removed)

Thanks.

Alex.
