network connection drops after inactivity

wayne

I'm running Windows XP (with all of the latest sp's
installed). Recently I noticed that after leaving the
computer idle for a while the network connection drops.
IPCONFIG still shows that I have the proper IP, SM & DGW
but I can't ping anything. When I reboot everything is
fine. I am going through a Netgear RP114 router/switch but
the other pc's on that switch are fine. Any ideas?
Thanks, Wayne ;-)

Hello

I'm having a similar problem but connection cuts whenever.

I made a bat to my desktop with 2 rows

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

This gets me back to network until I find the true reason.

In your case however if connection cuts when machine is on idle,
do you have some power saving functions working on your computer?

I had my network adapters properties set so that computer could shut
down my adapter in order to save power.

That would propably cut the connection too.
