Network card stopped working after windows updates

Hello, Help!!!

My network card stopped working after downloading
updates from the Microsoft Web site. I have
had this problem before and could run the IFCONFIG
Command "ifconfig eth0 up" (but can not get this command to work now).
this would turn the card back on. then to keep the card working after a
reboot I could delete a file or file folder.

I remember a news group saying to delete a
File or file folder to fix the problem. This file or folder
is downloaded from the Microsoft update web site
and stops the network card from working.

Does any remember the name of the file or file folder
that needs to be deleted to make the network card
Work again?

I'm runing Windows XP pro.

ifconfig eth0 is a linux command. XP is "ipconfig /all".

Thanks for the Help, but that only releases or renews the IP address if
the network card is working.
I'm look for a command that will turn back on the network card. the
icon next to the clock says the
newwork cable is unpluged, but it is not.
