Network browsing is slow

I have a W2K environment (W2K servers and W2K Pro
desktops).
Offline Files are enabled on the laptops and McAfee
Viruscan ver 4.5.0
is active.
The My Documents folder is redirected to a shared folder
on the server.
Network browsing is slow (4-10 seconds delay).
Network browsing is instantaneos if either:
1) Offline files is disabled , or
2) McAfee is disabled.

Any ideas?

Hello,

Browsing is very unreliable and anything can affect it. I would not use it
as a dependable method for accessing resources. Browsing is based of of
WINS and broadcasts.

How many WINS servers do you have?
Can you ping the server via name?
Can you ping the server via IP address?
When you open a command prompt and type in nbtstat -an, can you see the
server listed?
Management software appends filters to the protocol stack and registry,
this software can hamper browing if not negate it. Disable does NOT remove
the filters. Only by uninstalling it can you successfully remove all
remnants. Have you tried uninstalling the antivirus and testing?
How many protocols are in place? If more than one, try binding TCP above
the rest.
