When I look at the Network and Sharing Center, it shows a X on the
Internet link from the router to the Internet. When I try to fix it, I
get a message something like it can not connect to www.microsoft.com
(207.46.192.254).

When I try to open IE to www.microsoft.com, it works fine. I try to ping
it, I get "Request Timed Out".

I can ping like my ISP web site ok as well as their mail server and Usenet
server. I did try a direct connection to my cable modem, as well as
disable the wirewall and tryied it on my XP machine. Still no pings to
Microsoft.

Anyway to fix this like change the default location Network and Sharing
Center looks at?

No one can ping www.microsoft.com because it is blocked to ping. You may ping yahoo.com.
