network adapter issues

When I plug my ethernet cable from my router to my
computer I cant get the internet to work in the internet
explorer... I have all of the internet options settings
correct but i get an error messsage if i try to "repair"
the LAN connection. It says that it cant renew the ip
address. I tried to renew it manually through ipconfig
but it timed out. also my router is recieving and sending
the internet fine. should i be trying to reset things or
should i just buy a new network adapter.

thanks

This is very interesting... I am helping an neighbor with his machine that suddenly could not connect to the internet via his cable modem. I brought it to my home and connected it to my network and am experiencing the same issue as you. Did you attempt to reset the IP stack? I did, to no avail.

I wonder if your issue is the same as his?

When you deleted the Winsock keys, did you restore them?

.. Backup and delete the following registry keys

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

2. Reboot

3. Go to the network connections folder, right click the icon for your
network connection, and select properties.

4. Click install, choose "protocol", and click "add..."

5. Click "Have Disk...", enter "\windows\inf", click OK

6. Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), click OK

7. When the process in complete, reboot

I am having the same problem. Can't renew the IP address. Have tried the
"netsh ...." command along with editing the registery (deleteing Winsoc and
Winsoc2), but still no luck.
