I have 4 computers networked. One of them has unusual network activity on it. After using PortExploerer I find that svchost.exe is generating packets on the machine in question and sending them to internet gateway. The gateway is sending packets back. This is taking up bandwidth.
Any suggestions as to the cause
Thanks

Del,

Get Process Explorer (free) from
<http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml>. Provides way more
information than Task Manager. You can look at the instance of svchost.exe in
question, and find out what services it runs. Once you know what services are
involved, you can check them out at
<http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm>.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
