network access

pls help me to solve this probs.

Now we r having some 40 systems including 8 servers. the
DC and EXCH server is having Win2003 and the other 6
server is on Win2000, all the cllients are running on XP
Prof.

Recently because of some reason in some clients i removed
XP prof and installed 2k prof.

After that i noticed that from 2k prof clients (even with
the userlogin who is only a member of domain user) when i
am browsing the network (thru network neighbourhood) and
double click the servers or any client systems it is not
asking for the username & password and it is directly
showing the shared folders of that computer.

But in xp prof. client with the same userlogin, if i am
trying the same thing it is asking for the username &
password.

How can i bring the same athuentication screen in 2k
prof. clients when trying to access the network PC's.

As far as I know you can't. If the users on a W2K computer have permisions
to view/access a share then they can get access based on their logged on
credentials. If you do not want them accessing shares, make sure they do not
have any permissions to them. A user can also log onto the local machine and
if the account logon/password matches what is in the domain then they get
domain access to resources they have permissions to. I don't know why you
are seeing a difference with XP offhand. Possibly something is stored in
alternate credentials, which W2K does not have, causing such. --- Steve
