I have 2 computers both running WIN XP Home. Both also
have ZoneAlarm, but I have disabled it until I can get
them connecting. They connect through a Linksys hub.
I am unable to get them to see each other in the network
connections. I have ran the setup wizard several times,
on both machines. I have file and print sharing box
checked and the workgroup name is the same.
What else can I try to get them to see each other?

Greetings Jason,

Uninstall or configure ZoneAlarm for the local area network. Sometimes just
disabling doesn't always work.

Is that Linksys box a hub/switch, or is it a router? If a
router, then enable its DHCP service, and set both PCs to be
DHCP clients: that is the easiest way to get both PCs to
be in the same IP subnet. If a hub or switch, then you must
manually set the IPAs for both PCs to be in the same subnet.
The same subnet means, for IPA=a.b.c.d, a.b.c is the same for
both PCs, and the d's are unique.

You must permanently disable ICF on XP PCs to get F&P sharing to
work. And, uninstall all other firewall apps and (maybe) antivirus
apps while getting your net to work. ZA does not inhibit F&P sharing,
but you will need to enter individual IPAs or a range of IPAs in
the Trusted Zone to share stuff.

The easiest protocol selection to make work is TCP/IP enabled, and
NetBEUI and IPX/SPX disabled. And, enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP (not
always needed, but won't hurt). You need F&P sharing enabled, and
you need some F's and/or P's to be shared; File sharing is easier
to get working, so make that work before tackling Printer sharing.
Also, enable Client for M$ Nets.
