I have installed Netscape on my PC (WindowsXP Home
Edition) but when I attempt to OPEN it nothing happens.
I also have tried to install the Google toolbar and the
new Hotmail toolbar. Both processes say they have
completed but neither appear on IE. Any thoughts?

Thanks, PA Bear. But what about the toolbars in IE? I
just asked the Netscape question hoping someone else had
encounter the same problem with XP and knew something.

Are both listed in Add/Remove Programs? (It's the MSN Toolbar <feh>, BTW:
http://toolbar.msn.com/) Were /all/ programs, including your anti-virus
app, closed prior to installing 'em? Did you attempt to install Netscape
prior to installing the toolabrs? Have/had you tried uninstalling Netscape
prior to installing the toolbars? Might they have tried to install
themselves in Netscape, if you'd allowed Netscape to become your Default
Browser?... http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283127

PA Bear,

I did not have Netscape Navigator installed at all when I
tried to load the toolbars. IE is my default browser. I
do have Netscape Communicator installed and use it when
IE keeps giving me problems. I can't tell if either of
the toolbars I mentioned are in the Add/Remove
settings... I keep getting a Windows Explorer message
when I try to access it. Lastly, I did not have any
programs open at the times of the installs, but I did not
disable Norton or Black Ice. DShould it make a
diffence? Thanks for the help.

[I top-post and so did you for a while.]

You originally said Netscape wouldn't open. Has something changed?

What error message referencing Explorer do you get when trying to go to
Add/Remove Programs?

Your AV app should always be disabled and all other apps closed before
installing or uninstalling anything, yes.

I don't care if you've seen this before: Check your system for "hijackware".

Important: You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each
and every use, even "right out of the box". But even they can't catch
everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the HijackThis Logs forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

[Many anti-spyware sites continue to suffer from a week-long DoS attack.
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page: http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.]

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?

In IE click Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Is "Enable third party browser enhancements" checked?

Later in the thread dj states that he's using Netscape Communicator with IE6
as default browser and that he uses Communicator "when IE keeps giving [him]
problems."

?? I can't tell if he's gotten Netscape Navigator working and thinks it and
Communicator are the same thing or what.

Just thought I'd throw in a different line of attack and ignore Netscape. I
know people who seem to run both Netscape and IE without any problem.
