Netscape has a web editor, and from reading the few messages here I'm
wondering if there isn't some compatibility with Front Page .... such
as the problem of the urls for img src and other files found locally in
my computer, changing to read C:\\.......filename.extension?

Are these the same .. is front page in Netscape web editor??

No
They are 2 separate web editors
Do not open you FP web/site in the NN editor or you will lose FP compatibility

If your links are point to your hard drive it's because
- you did not open a FP Web / Site to work in first (do not just open a page)
- you did not Fie Import any pages / files you used into a FP Web / Site before you used them
- you did not save the pages in you FP Web /Site before you published them
