Upon trying to instal Netscape 7.02,
I got a popup saying:
"NSSetup.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

Does this mean I can't choose my own browser ?
I had Firefox and Avant before, and am not so
pleased with IE anymore.
Thanks for any info...

Sounds like you have only a partial file. What is the filesize?

Well...

I had Firefox and Avant before

That sounds like a "no" then :-)

Probably a corrupted file.

No! It means that there's something wrong with your installation file.
Try downloading it again.

Looks to me to be just a setup file,
since it only was about 300 and some kb's,
is that possible ?

Ok, looks like you downloaded the "stub" installer of a little less than
300k and at the same time it looks like it got corrupted.

Either d'load it again or try the whole thing.

NS 7.2:

ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape7/english/7.2/windows/win32/sea/NSSetup-Full.exe

Or did you really mean 7.02 ??

ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape7/english/7.02/windows/win32/sea/NSSetupB.exe

Ok will do,thanks Jay..

Why not use the real, full version?

Netscape is just an older, branded version of Mozilla.

You might also want Firefox, instead. It's a lite version, basically. About
4meg total. Still technically pre-release, but it works reasonably well
anywhere except Microsoft.

Sorry R. can't afford it at the moment, but thanks
may look into opera in the future..

I'd suggest moving on from Netscape to its successor - Mozilla Firefox,
at www.mozilla.org

It is a free browser, officially a Preview release, but in practice
solid and very usable and becoming a popular recommendation
I use it for most things, other than some on Microsoft's site that
specifically need IE6, and have rather dropped out of using Opera

Geeze, Alex. I absolutely LOVE Netscape 7.2. I can't imagine giving it
up. Maybe when Firefox is gold, I'll give it a whirl but right now
Netscape is extremely solid (I have not had a single crash since
installing it in the summer).

Does it have tabbed browsing?

Alias
Yes, Alias... tabbed browsing, a great side-bar I can easily shrink when
necessary and a Pref bar (as well as a Netscape tool bar which I only
occasionally use) plus a pop-up blocker. It's really quite awesome.

James,

It's obvious that you are not aware that Netscape (7.2) is based on Mozilla
completely.

Better yet, Moz is continuously updated as they develop features, bug fixes,
etc. Netscape will add their next version only after quite a few more Moz
versions are issued. Worse yet, Netscape includes all kinds of proprietary stuff
that just wastes space on your system.

Otherwise, there is no difference between the two - Mozilla is exactly the same
browser but more secure and robust as newer versions/updates become available.

Netscape will likely be done with the version you have, maybe one more but since
Mozilla IS Netscape, there is no need for two of them and the Moz development
crew will keep on going.

I recommend you make the switch - by the way, you can install it separately and
see for yourself. I suggest, however, that you create a new profile by copying
your existing one, give a new name, and let Moz use that one. You will have
every setting that you have now.

Good luck, Fred

Hi Fred

Actually, I'm aware of this, Fred. In fact, I have had Mozilla (last one
I had was 1.6 I believe) on my computer. I'm not sure why I downloaded
NS 7.2 other than the fact that I started with Netscape some seven years
ago and I've always had a soft spot for that browser. The good old
throbber puts me at peace. I understand AOL will be coming out with an
update in January and yes.. it will probably be the last one. I'll
likely make the switch to Firefox/Thunderbird before that time. That way
I will not need to bother with creating new profiles and so forth.
Thanks for the heads-up.
