Hi Guys
What is microsofts netframework for ?
I am a home single pc user.
I shouldn.t need something like that should i ?
I helped my niece install software for a HP digital camera the other day and
it automaticaly installed netframework 1.1 .
Is it something that wouldn't hurt to be on all computers.
Thanks

Hi Carl,

While not essential for the operating system, some programs use the .net
framework. It is used to support some programs and services, there is a

It is not necessary to install it on any machine that doesn't have programs
that require it (mostly it's really for programmers).

I install it on every computer I build or service, both residential and
commercial. I've even had it put on a few Linux machines, but I didn't
actually do that work.

Just like Java programs need to have the Java Runtime Environment installed,
..NET programs need to have the .NET Framework installed.

You're correct... not only would it not hurt to have it on every machine,
but it will be on every machine that uses the next and subsequent version of
Windows.
