netbt failed to load

I have a windows "xp home" machine on a small network with
a windows 2000 server and about 4 other pcs running '98,
xp and '95. It was networking fine with the LAN, until
just the other day when the local area network browsing
functions stopped, and event view reports that netBT
failed to load, thus Netbios over tcp/ip is not working.
We have an internet router and this xp machine is still
accessing the internet fine, but cannot browse the network.

All other pcs in the network have not changed, and DO have
netbios over tcp/ip implemented and the computer browser
service started, where applicable. No software firewalls
are implemented.

How can I get this XP machine back browsing the LAN?
What's wrong here? thanks.

More notes on same issue:
Event Viewer shows the following errors:
1)Event ID: 7026 The following boot start or system driver
(s) failed to load: NetBT
2) The tcp/ip netbios helper service which depends on the
NetBT service which failed to start. Device attached to
the system is not functioning.

I can ping all other pcs on LAN, but cannot browse
network neighborhood or map any drives, etc
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling all network
components. any ideas?
