NetBIOS over TCP/IP

N

Nicholas Barsotti

Our network is now completely Windows 2000, XP, and server
2003 so I decided to disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. I
decided to run Network Monitor and I still see some NBT
packets floating around. What is up with that? I thought
after disabling netbios of tcp/ip on all computers I would
eliminate that traffic. Please advise?

Hi Nick,
When looking at the network trace and seeing Netbios note the port number
being used. 445 or 139? 445 connections are DirectSMB bypassing the
netbios layer.

Thank you,
