NETBIOS over TCP/IP not appearing under WINS

Dae

Doing a google search, I found there was a thread about this same
problem back in mid October. Problem is that I don't know what the
resolution was, if any.

Here's the problem. In Windows 2000 Pro, I have Netbios over TCP/IP
enabled under the TCP/IP advanced WINS setting. But like the previous
poster Trueblue, when I make a VPN connection, under the dialup network
minidriver properties, the option is missing under the WINs tab under
advanced TCP/IP properties.

His post said that under Windows XP, the option as there. But like him,
under Windows 2000, the option to Enable Netbios over TCP/IP does not
appear. Does anyone have a fix for this problem? I've checked with
both SP3 and SP4.

Thanks!!

Go ahead and recreate your VPN Connection. You have 2 choices, you have 1
that says connect to the Internet, and one that says Connect to a Private
Network. If you choose the option of Connect to the Internet, Netbios will
be disabled. If you choose, connect to a Private Network it will be enabled.

So re-create your connection, and let me know if that was it. :)

Brian,

I have no idea on what your talking about because when I use the
internet connection wizard, all I get are 3 options: Signup for a new
internet account (Dial up); Transfer my existing internet account (Dial
up); and I want to setup my Internet connect Manually (LAN). I don't
understand how this will allow me to get the NetBios over TCP/IP on the
networking tab for dialup connections. I did the Softremote VPN client
on my buddies Windows XP and in XP, Saferemote's miniport adapter does
have the option to select Netbios over TCP/IP.

Hope you understand what I'm saying... Thanks - Dae

Brian,

I just figured out what you were saying. I needed to go directly to
Make new connection in My network places.

Well, I tried what you suggested and tried evey option, but no matter
what, Netbios over TCP/IP option does not appear in WINS tab under the
advanced TCP/IP settings. Any otehr suggestion?

Thanks!!

When you create a VPN-connection, default the Netbios over TCP/IP is not
available and thus disabled.

Is there a way to enable it, maybe a patch or something? I sure don't
want to spend the cash to upgrade to XP just to be able to enable
Netbios over TCP/IP.

Thanks!

No, VPN doesn't work that way. You can only enable Netbios on a nic. It
hasn't got anything to do with Xp Home or Pro. What is your goal?
