When using the net use command to map drives and printer
ports on a XP box, a common user must enter a password to
connect to each device on the server. I found an article
in Knowledge Base(287536)to fix this problem. However I
have a few users that use both 2000 and XP machines. On
the 2000 machines the script box just freezes at the
bottom of the screen. Is there a work around for this?

The 'savecred' switch is only available in XP. Using this switch in a W2K script could be the cause of your problem.
