I have these loaded on my computer and I'm wondering if I need to have them
loaded? I'm not a developer and they seem to be for developing programs not
for using them later.
Is this correct?
thanks

Hi

Some programs need .NET Framework installed to run properly.

You can uninstall them but some software you will install in the future or
have them now will need the .NET Framework to Run correctly on your machine
correctly.
Here is a definition for NET Framework:
Is a Microsoft software component that can be added or installed on
Microsoft Windows Operating system or platform.
It support or provide a support for coded applications/programs that written
in NET framework language to be executed on your system.
Such application written in NET Framework like, Visual Basic, C++, J2EE, MS
Office, user interface, Website data programming in ASP, Cryptography, some
games, Anti-viruses software.
HTH.

Some? Any examples or is it hit miss.

From reading the discription of what framework is it seemed to be a source
library for developers to get on the same page in writing software that is
used on windows. So different programs interact correctly.

Guess I didn't read enough, sort of the reason I posted.

thanks

Thanks to both of you. It's the answer I didn't want to hear but I
understand. Disk drives get bigger - programs get bigger. O well such is life.

Thanks again!

I uninstalled all versions on my computer a long time ago and haven't needed
any version yet. Why not just uninstall yours?

No, it's not correct. The .net framework is a runtime file used by programs
written with .net. If you have and want to run such a program, you need to
have the appropriate version (1.0, 2.0, 3.0) of the .net framework for it.
More and more such programs are being released all the time, so I reecommend
that you keep all of these installed, so you don't have to worry about
having them when you need them. They take up a very small amount of disk
space.

Well I have reinstalled the ones I removed.

Why they are under the optional software, if they are really needed I don't
know.

As to the space issue, I guess these day 1GB isn't that much.
