I installed version 2.0 of .Net Framework, but version 1.1 still shows in
Add/Remove Programs. Can it be safely removed?
Thanx
Walt

Yes and no. Some programs get specific with being able to run with a certain
versions of .net that was used when the program was installed while others
will have conflicts if you have more than one vrsion installed. Go ahead and
remove it and if it causes any issues you can always reinstall.

Maybe, but it is best to leave it alone.

..Net Framework comes in versions 1.1 and 2.0. Applications that use .Net
Framework are version specific. If you know that you do not have any
applications that use version 1.1, then you can remove it. If you ever
install an application that uses version 1.1, you will need to re-install.
Thus it is best to just leave it alone.

Question about these in general.

I just reinstalled XP Pro and when I go to windowsupdate, I see a few
..Net framework updates... I have no idea what this is or if I care : I'm
not a developer - I'm a casual user. Do I need these updates to .NET
( whether 1.1 or 2.0 or version x.y ? )

Thanks

Bobb, next time don't post your question as an add on to another thread.
Post a new question.

If .Net is installed on your system then do the updates for that
version. .Net doesn't need to be installed unless there is an
application on the system that requires it. Version 1.1 and 2.0 are
separate. 2.0 is not an upgrade to 1.1, both can coexist on the system.
Which one is needed depends on the underlying programs that need .Net
