.NET Framework v2.0.41115

Q

Quimbly

I recently installed the Visual Studio 2005 CTP Beta on my
machine. That went fine, but when I uninstalled it (as my
team later told me we were going to be working with VS2005
Beta 1), it didn't uninstall version 2.0.41115 of the
framework.

Later, I installed VS2005 Beta 1, and it installed version
2.0.40607 of the framework. Now I have both versions on my
PC and this is possibly the cause for VS crashing so often.

I've tried uninstalling VS2005 Beta 1, but it leaves the
newer framework from the CTP version on the machine.

So, how do I get rid of the version 2.0.41115 of the
framework? It doesn't appear in the Add/Remove panel. I
suppose I could just delete the
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.41115 directory,
but I'm sure that would lead to problems.

Any suggestions?

The best way to work with betas is to have a fresh install of the OS with all
programs that are not beta. Then, ghost it off. Then, install the beta. Any
time you get a newer build, pull the backup from Ghost and install fresh.

Betas are notorious for not working 100%. CTPs, which are interim builds
between betas, are even worse.

Thanks for the input. I agree, a clean system to work from
would be nice. Unfortunately, that's not an option at this
point in time.

Any suggestions on removing the newer CTP beta .NET framework?

Hi,
The way I was able to uninstall the crappy december CTP was:
click Start - Run - installer
this will open up the C:\WINDOWS\Installer folder (if that is where windows
is installed.Click on View - Details
(you may need to add the "Comments" field to the viewer (View -Choose
Details...).
Now you can search for any 2.0 reference.
Right click on the installer file and select uninstall.

Hope this helps.

As I recall it was November's that was extremely buggy and December's
that worked fine. December is also the latest version that MS has
released afaik. December works extremely well as long as you do not
have prior versions installed. November's is just plain filled with
bugs however

I never had the Nov built... but the Dec built did not want to open the
smartdevice form.
BTW... the latest Feb built looks way better than beta1
