I'm very close to cutting out my computer's heart with a spoon.

I've been trying to connect my new Media Center laptop to my X-Box for a
couple days now, but with no success. I think I've isolated the problem,
though, which is that the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 isn't installing
correctly. When I run the installation program it gets to the point of
"gathering required information," at which point it simply closes without
going any further. It never shows up in the "Add or Remove Program" control
panel, either.

Has anbody else had a similar issue?

Does it put anything into your event logs?

Yes. It says that the configuration was completed successfully (event ID
11728). Does that mean it installed? I still don't see any sign of it in the
add/remove programs list.

Start | Run <type in> control userpasswords2 <enter>

If you find a user by the name of ASPNET there's a chance it
installed.

Try:
Start | Run <type in> DXDIAG <enter>
Go to the network tab, it's help me with similar network problems.
