Nero install rejected

I just installed Vista Home Premium to a newly-built PC. I installed a
couple of other programs from DVD with no problem. However, the installation
of Nero (from a DVD) failed. We eliminated the possibility of a bad disk by
using a disk which had already worked on another computer.

Installing other programs from DVD proves that the drive is operating
correctly. Attempting to install Nero from a known-good DVD proves that the
problem is not with the disk. What is it in Vista that could reject the
installation of one program, but allow installations of other programs?

It would probably be more beneficial if you provided specific errors
received, or specific symptoms (e.g. Disk never started up, failed at 60%,
no error messages, just stopped, some files expanded to temp directory but
installation did not proceed, etc.)

Additionally, what version of VHP are you using? Prior to SP1? x64?

Why the assumption that Vista is at fault? Did you check Nero support? What
specific version/product from Nero? Is your DVD LightScribe capable? Did you
have an AV running during the install?

Try here: http://www.nero.com/enu/support-news.html?id=80
(It's not always Vista.)

Thanks

Have you installed as the Administator.
Right click setup program from Nero disk and click run as administrator.
Some programs need to be installed at a higher level.

What is the version of Nero? If 7, is it the Vista-compatible version
or an earlier version?

FYI

The problem occurred, when we assigned an account name during installation.
We included a special character (omega) into the account name. Vista did not
seem to like that, although there was no indication of a problem until we
booted - even then, there was no communication from Vista that there was a
problem - our system just froze whenever the Welcome Center ran.
Ctrl-alt-del returned us to the desktop. We reinstalled Vista, omitting the
special character in the account name, and all is now right with the world.

FYI this same problem prohibited us from installing Nero - the change in
account name at installation now allows us to install Nero.
