nero 7

Hi Folks,

I recently purchased a new, unopened, retail version of Nero 7 Ultra
Edition ENHANCED, with a Windows Vista Ready sticker on the box.
Having heard about people having problems upgrading to the latest
version after installing, I decided to be clever. Instead of
installing from the CD, I downloaded the latest 7.7.5.1 trial version
from the Nero site and installed it on my VHP system using the key
that came with my Nero retail version. It worked. It installed
properly and ran properly.

However, I later decided that I preferred to have it installed in a
different folder, so I uninstalled it using the Windows uninstaller,
rebooted, deleted the remaining Nero folders that were left behind,
and rebooted again.

Now, when I try to reinstall from the downloaded file, it looks as if
it's installing, but the end result is that it's not there. I can
install from the CD, but when I do an upgrade the same thing happens.
It may be that a Nero file on my system or entry in my registry thinks
that my 30 day trial has expired, and it won't allow me to either
reinstall the downloaded trial version or update my CD retail version,
even though I have a valid retail key.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.

You could try doing a system restore to an earlier point if you had created
one. If that does not work, what you try is reinstalling the software and do
a Add/Remove option. I had an issue where I was trying to repair 7.7.5.1
after upgrading my brothers system from XP, and the Add/Remove option
worked. When I launch Smart Center, it requested I download an update to
ensure full compatibility with Vista, but I couldn't bother.

Do you mean reinstall from the CD or reinstall the trial version? I
reinstalled from the CD, and ProductSetup gives me a choice to either
Modify or Remove. When I click on Modify it takes me back to the
Custom Setup screen which will pull from the CD the same files that
are already installed.
