Nero 6 Burining ROM

(1) When you burn a "hard drive backup," is the resulting file an ISO
image, or is it something else? (The file icons are different)

(2) For a backup to successfully resore your complete Windows XP Pro
SP2 operating system and applications and data, does it have to be
burned as an ISO image, or will Nero "hard drive backup" fully restore
your Windows XP OS?

(3) When you burn an ISO, how can you direct it to another hard drive?
Nero 6 Burning ROM seems to force ISO images to go to a CD or DVD, but
won't let you save to a HDD. At least I can't figure out how. It does
let you save a "hard drive backup" to another HDD, but apparently not
an ISO image.

1. and 2. Did you read the help part where it cautions backing up active
file systems, hello.

3. You cannot image something and save it to that same location. Think
about it.

"You cannot image something and save it to that same location. Think

That's not it. I have a drive E dedicated to storage of
backups.
I want to image drive C: and drive D: onto drive E: .

"Did you read the help part where it cautions backing up active
file systems, hello."

My concern is to make a backup of the Windows XP OS with all its
updates and settings, that will successfully work in future if my OS
gets corrupted & needs replacing.

As I understand it, only an ISO image will accomplish this. But I
dojn't see any way to store an ISO image of, say C:, onto E:. If you
select Nero's "Image Recorder," then Nero seems to force you to put
your ISO onto a CD or DVD.

I want to put an ISO of my OS onto a different drive, E: How?

Its whatever extention Nero use for their backup, nbk or something as
I recall it is essentially the same as any other backup image file in
that Nero looks for it to run a restore.

Can be either on HDD or DVD the restore routine will ask you which
backup you want to restore, point it at your HDD image or your DVD
player.

An ISO image is a mirror image (kind of) for burning direct to a CD /
DVD which is what Nero is all about. Start Nero, Select "Recorder"
then "Burn Image" then select and burn the ISO image to a disk. If you
wish to restore you do it from the disk.

I think of an ISO image as a Printing Press Roller, its the wrong way
round and inside out so its unreadable until you transfer it to paper.
The HDD Image is the printed version that can be read directly or
converted to a ISO for "pressing out a copy" as it were.

Not entirely correct but a reasonable analogy.
