Could someone please advise me how I set up a custom number format that makes
negative values appear in brackets eg minus 56000 like this (56,000) rather
than -56000. I still want the comma, dollar options on the toolbar to
function as they currently do such that if I select $ icon, this number will
turn into $56,000.00 or if I want to use the increase/decrease decimal point
for say 2 decimal places that my result is (56,000.00) or if I use the comma
icon that it defaults to 2 decimal places all with brackets for negative
numbers.

If negative brackets are not available in the Number>Negative Numbers dialog.

This is a function of your Regional Settings in Windows OS.

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Regional and Language Settings>Regional
Options>Customize>Currency>Negative Currency Format. Click on drop-down arrow
and select the ($1.1)

Note: this is under the "Currency" tab in Regional Options. Changing under
the "Numbers" tab only does not do the trick.

Apply and OK>Apply your way out.
