Needs to close, sorry for inconvenience

My internet explorer keeps closing, I don't even get the error message anymore, my window just disappears. This happened before and I had to delete a explorer patch, but when I go into add/remove programs, there's no patches for explorer in there this time. I looked in the knowlege base, and it says to remove the smart tags, but I don't have those either. Can anyone help?
