Need Windows XP Media after code 19 corrupts Registry

Martin Green

Can anyone help me findout if I can download Windows XP
Home Edition media from the MS site.

A friend has recently purchased a Time PC which has
Windows XP Home Edition Preloaded, but there is no media
disc supplied by Time. They have a code 19 error after
loading Nero which has caused the DVD drives to be
unrecognised due to the registry being corrupted.

I shall try and manually edit the registry as per MS
directions but if this fails I want to reload windows XP.

Please let me know if you can help.

No, you can't download a copy of the OS, sorry.

You'd need to go back to Time and ask them for help on this. They don't have
to supply a "restore disk" as such, but they DO have to supply some kind of
method of restoring the operating system to factory defaults.

Goto http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpcd.php#problems
See the second "problem" (read the caveats)
Run the provided registry patch

That should fix your problem (basically, a filter driver is missing or
non-operational, the registry patch will delete the filter drivers
references for your cdrom(s))

Basically, the reg file from above carries out the steps displayed at this
website
