Need Users Last Name Listed First

John

Our users are sorted in AD by first name. How do you
convert it so names are listed by last name first? This
is most pertinent to our newly built Exchange server. By
reversing the listing in AD, will that make sure that
when I compose an e-mail, I can just type the last name
(instead of the first name...as it is now)?

Hello John go to the View menu in the Active Directory Users and Computer
snapin. Then Add/Remove Columns, Add Last Name or what ever columns you want
to use.

Hi John,

look at the following KB:

I ran into the same issue when migrating our NT4 domain to AD. There
are basically 2 things you need to do. First, you need to change the
The AD default "firstname lastname" to "Lastname, Firstname" The
following KB article tells you how to do that.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;250455
However, this only changes how AD displays newly added accounts. It
won't change any existing accounts.

This next KB article has a VBS script that will change the display
name for all existing accounts. It worked great for my 7000 user
domain.

Good luck!!!

I did what was specified below...followed directions of
article 250455 to change newly added accounts, and ran
the VB script provided in article 277717. The 'Display
Name' was changed fine for both cases. However,
the 'Name' column still shows 'first name' first for
existing users. But, for new users, the 'Name' column
shows 'Last Name' first. I would like the 'Name ' column
to have the 'Last Name' first for existing users too
(it's inconsistent as of now). Any ideas? Thanks.
