I upgraded from Windows 98 to Windows XP and now I need to
revert back to Windows 98. Unfortunately the uninstall
files are not there. How do I uninstall XP?

Try checking Add/Remove Programs for a Windows XP Upgrade entry. I'm not
sure the exact text, but I'm sure it will be pretty obvious which one is the
proper entry. Clicking the Change/Remove button should give you the option
of uninstalling.

Here's one solution

1) Boot using a Windows 98 boot floppy which contains fdisk.
2) Using fdisk, delete all partitions on the HD.
3) Using fdisk, create at least one primary FAT32 partition on the HD
large enough to contain Windows 98, and set it as "Active".
4) Reboot
5) Format all partitions you created.
6) Reboot, then install Windows 98 normally.

Tony,

There is not an Un-install for XP. You MUST re-format and install Windows
98.

Hm.. I was under the impression one could undo the upgrade, assuming an old
operating system had been upgraded and that XP was not installed from
scratch. Apparently, I was sadly mistaken. Sorry for the incorrect
information, Kizer.

You can only undo it if all three of the following are true:

1. You upgraded, rather than installed cleanly.

2. You chose the option to save the old Windows 98 installation

3. Your drive is not NTFS.

Greetings --

If you performed an upgrade from Win98/Me, elected to backup the
old system files, and didn't convert the partition to NTFS, then all
you need do is boot into Safe Mode and Start > Control Panel >
Add/Remove Programs. All of these conditions _must_ be met for the
uninstall option to be available.
