need to reformat hard drive

My computer is acting up. I think I need to format my hard drive. I do not
have a windows xp home edition cd. It was not sent with my computer. I do
own a liscense though. I have the product key to windows xp tapped on the
back of my computer. Does anyone know how I can contact microsoft to see if
they will send me a copy of windows xp. Will microsoft do that? Or am i
just SOL?

Check the manufacturers web site, they will have a procedure to restore your
system to shipped state as required by Microsoft to be a Microsoft OEM
system builder. Some manufacturers allow you to restore and keep your files
and settings, some will only restore to original shipped state. All vendors
are different; so you must consult your system vendor. Microsoft cannot help
you with OEM restore or repair problems.
When posting questions, please post make, model, computer and what version
of XP and what service pack is installed. It really helps to assess you
options and fixes.
