Need to re-install Windows XP home SP2 without having to reactivate

Gerald Bramwell

Hello,

I am running a dual boot PC and would like to go to single boot into XP,
I know I am going to have to reinstall Windows XP but I don't want to
find that I have to reactivate windows again, it has been installed for
about 18 months.

I have Windows 98 SE on drive C and Windows XP home SP2 on drive D (same
physical drive)and would like to combine the two drives into one.

What is the procedure for a reinstall from two drives to a single drive
straight Windows XP boot?

Thanks

If you reinstall, you'll need to reactivate. This isn't a problem unless
your license isn't valid. At most, it's a toll-free phone call to a number
you will be provided. But it's most likely that you will be able to
activate online.

There is no reason to fear activation unless you are aware that you have
pirated software. In which case, I say, good enough for you. Hell, the
most it can cost you is a few minutes on the phone to a toll free number
which the program will even give you.

He is right, activation is just an annoyence especially if you are a power
user and have to reinstall windows 3 or 4 times in a month because its such
an unstable OS. If you havent activated you windows in quite some time .. it
should allow you to activate through the web .. if you are like me .. you
have to make the phone call every time but even activating it 3 times in a
month they don't give you to many problems .. they just will ask you for
your original CD key and possiblly some other numbers on the sticker.

Unstable OS? I have XP since it was announced and have never had to
reinstall.
You reinstall 3 or 4 times a month??? What are you doing to cause that?
No-one in my circle of family and friends have had to reinstall XP.
What is the problem that you can't overcome that causes you to reinstall?

The phrases "Power user" and "have to reinstall windows 3 or 4 times
in a month" don't go together. Power users never have to reinstall
Windows.

Well, hardly ever...
I've done it once in 18 months on my desktop machine and not at all on
my 3 1/2 year-old laptop.
I have resorted to "system restore" more often than that.
