Hi guys,

trying to load photoshop 4.0 then onto 7.0.
Have xp sp2, 2.99 GHz, 0.99 GB RAM on this puter.
Googled this problem but am getting conflicting amounts as to what to set
my performance options at. As of now my perf. options under sys. properties
is set on 1524 MB

If anyone can guide me -step by step-( in as simple terms as possible ) as
to what/how to set the per. options at I would greatly appreciate it !

NO just the number.
I'm so sorry but like I said, computers are a bit of a challenge for me at
times.

No need to say sorry, if I know as much as you do in your field (job) I will
be lucky.
My ram under my computer properties says 0.99 GB RAM . This is a fairly new
computer ( got it in July ) and windows also recently got corrupted on it

I used to get a notice from time to time ( before the corruption ) that
virtual memory was needing an increase and it did so for me but that does
not happen since the reinstall.

Now, to the command-if I need to do it: Are these the proper steps ?
I go to "start" then " run" then type in that command there , is that
correct ?

That's correct, bear in mind the space between sfc_/
This machine is bare bones- for the most part- due to the uninstall and
reinstall, I have tons of room on it still, not sure why I would be having
this problem.

Something else, did you tried to disable the Plug-Ins as described in the
cleaning process, that can help and you can enable them later one-by-one on
your browser.

Good luck.

Have been told I have to install photoshop 4 before I can install and get 7

Now another strange problem, had to go to my laptop to read this answer for
when I go to this newsgroup on my other pc -from which I posted this

Only thing I did diff. when I logged onto the newsgroup with that computer
was to allow popups from this site. How can I view the threads via that

Anyway, maybe it is a glitch, the photoshop deal is more important to me at
the moment.

Nass,

Its working now per putting in the 450 and 720, THANK YOU SO MUCH !
Still have the problem on that pc though with going to and being able to
read the threads on the xp general newsgroup, I see the page with the
threads but cannot read the threads when I click on them.
I see the menu on the left, etc. but cannot click and actually read q&a's.
I tried unchecking the 3rd party browser extensions under browsing options,
is that what you were referring to as the fix per this problem?
Again I see "error on page" down in the left hand corner of the screen when
on the xp windows site. Am on my laptop now for it "reads" the page just
fine.

I didn't disable anything under manage add ons under program tabs for was
unsure as to what is actually verified ( does not say) and am a bit
skeptical there.
Also not sure about disabling plug ins for am not sure what all is involved
there and what was
with that, necessary now at all ?

Many many thanks to you again!

Hi,
How to set performance options in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308417/

MS:: <Quote>
The paging file is not necessarily a single file; it can be a group of files
stored in various locations, across hard disks and partitions. The files are
collectively referred to as "the paging file." When thinking about the size
of the paging file, the sum of all the files that make up the paging file is
the only value you need to keep in mind.

Also you may have your security settings to High try to make it Medium High.
Your script engine may need refreshing:

Or you can try this first:
Open a run command and type in these DLLs to re-register them:
regsvr32 SOFTPUB.DLL
regsvr32 Wintrust.dll
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
regsvr32 Initpki.dll

regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll
Note you can copy the above and paste in a Notepad and Save As on the
Desktop reg.bat file then you can open a run command and type in:
C:\reg.bat click [OK] and then Yes.

Try to Disable the Non-verified Add-Ons in the instructions given earlier,
it is mostly a Plug-ins that causing this, don't worry if any application you
can't access on the internet you can Enable the Add-Ons for it, in anyway as
described you can enable them One-By-One and see which one will cause the
probelm and leave disabled or uninstall it.
You will just disable not delete, so no worries, just take your time and

is an error on the page. The page is there but no threads, no q&a's.
Only thing I did diff. when I logged onto the newsgroup with that computer

Anyway, maybe it is a glitch, the photoshop deal is more important to me at

Windows is not giving me any options to handle it, I just get the window that
pops up saying it requires 3 mb. virtual memory and thats it.
Have been told I have to install photoshop 4 before I can install and get 7

MS:: <Quote>
The paging file is not necessarily a single file; it can be a group of files
stored in various locations, across hard disks and partitions. The files are
collectively referred to as "the paging file." When thinking about the size
of the paging file, the sum of all the files that make up the paging file is
the only value you need to keep in mind.

Hi,
Glad to hear it sorted, you are using the Usenet, you are not reading the
posts from a proper newsreader like Outlook/Outlook Express or other e-mail
client.
Here is a link if you wish to set up a proper newsreader:
Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/outlookexpressnewreader.htm
Also you may have your security settings to High try to make it Medium High.
Your script engine may need refreshing:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814078

Or you can try this first:
Open a run command and type in these DLLs to re-register them:
regsvr32 SOFTPUB.DLL
regsvr32 Wintrust.dll
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
regsvr32 Initpki.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 Sccbase.dll
regsvr32 Slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll
regsvr32 Dssenh.dll
regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll
Note you can copy the above and paste in a Notepad and Save As on the
Desktop reg.bat file then you can open a run command and type in:
C:\reg.bat click [OK] and then Yes.

Try to Disable the Non-verified Add-Ons in the instructions given earlier,
it is mostly a Plug-ins that causing this, don't worry if any application you
can't access on the internet you can Enable the Add-Ons for it, in anyway as
described you can enable them One-By-One and see which one will cause the
probelm and leave disabled or uninstall it.
You will just disable not delete, so no worries, just take your time and
write down what you are changing to revert back if you have difficulties.

My Reply inline:

:

ok Nass, thanks-will try that. Do I have to type in MB after the 450 and the
720?

NO just the number.

I'm so sorry but like I said, computers are a bit of a challenge for me at
times.

No need to say sorry, if I know as much as you do in your field (job) I will
be lucky.

My ram under my computer properties says 0.99 GB RAM . This is a fairly new
computer ( got it in July ) and windows also recently got corrupted on it
and had to be uninstalled and reinstalled about 2 wks. ago.

Good luck.

Hi guys,

trying to load photoshop 4.0 then onto 7.0.

In your situation I will leave windows to handle it, and what the Ver 4.0
then Ver 7.0 are you upgrading or installing two applications for the same
product?.

Hi,
If you Right click My Computer and select Properties, on the system
properties click Advanced tab then click on Settings under Performance.
On the performance Options click on advanced tab then [ Change..] Button
opposite Virtual Memory.
On Virtual Memory You can increase or as I mentioned select this option:
(*) System managed size
Or you can increase4 the custom size to 360 or 450 to Max 720
I will make sure this machine is clean by performing these steps:
First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced.

Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.

Click Connections tab and make sure the this radio button is checked:
(*) Never Dial a connection

Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
For Malwares download both these software:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D
Open a run command and type in:
ipconfig /flushdns click [OK]
ipconfig /renew click [OK]
netsh winsock reset click [OK]
Reboot your machine and run this Command:
sfc /scannow click [OK] and let it run then perform a clean Up disk and
defrag in safe mode then try the installation $ then 7.

thanks Nass. I tried the system managed size and still cannot get adobe to
work.

Now my settings there say space available 148003 mb
then below that it says min. allowed 2mb
then recommend 1521 mb
the currently allocated 1521 mb

Exactly what -under the custom size setting - do I type in under

#1 Initial
#2 maxiumum

do I just put in 360 or 450 in initial just like that, any other figures ?
and do I just put in 720 in max. just like that, any other figures ?

Sorry but am a bit computer inept at times and this is the first time I have
been to this area of my system, sure dont want to totally fowl it up !

Hi,
Glad to hear it sorted, you are using the Usenet, you are not reading the
posts from a proper newsreader like Outlook/Outlook Express or other e-mail
client.
Here is a link if you wish to set up a proper newsreader:
Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/outlookexpressnewreader.htm
Also you may have your security settings to High try to make it Medium High.
Your script engine may need refreshing:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/814078

Or you can try this first:
Open a run command and type in these DLLs to re-register them:
regsvr32 SOFTPUB.DLL
regsvr32 Wintrust.dll
regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
regsvr32 Initpki.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 Sccbase.dll
regsvr32 Slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll
regsvr32 Dssenh.dll
regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll
Note you can copy the above and paste in a Notepad and Save As on the
Desktop reg.bat file then you can open a run command and type in:
C:\reg.bat click [OK] and then Yes.

Try to Disable the Non-verified Add-Ons in the instructions given earlier,
it is mostly a Plug-ins that causing this, don't worry if any application you
can't access on the internet you can Enable the Add-Ons for it, in anyway as
described you can enable them One-By-One and see which one will cause the
probelm and leave disabled or uninstall it.
You will just disable not delete, so no worries, just take your time and
write down what you are changing to revert back if you have difficulties.

This is a fairly new
computer ( got it in July ) and windows also recently got corrupted on it
and had to be uninstalled and reinstalled about 2 wks. ago.

Good luck.

Hi,
Well, if the problem is gone by downloading the Security batch, I can say
you don't need to do anything, just keep things tidy and clean up from time
to time, by scanning for malwares and viruses, disk clean up and Defrag (
every Week or so) .

Sometimes it will be good to make sure all the add-ons are legit ones.
But you are safe for now LOL, have an anti-virus, firewall and Anti-spyware,
with common sense and you are okay.

it is mostly a Plug-ins that causing this, don't worry if any application you
can't access on the internet you can Enable the Add-Ons for it, in anyway as
described you can enable them One-By-One and see which one will cause the
probelm and leave disabled or uninstall it.
You will just disable not delete, so no worries, just take your time and
write down what you are changing to revert back if you have difficulties.

Many many thanks to you again!

ok Nass, thanks-will try that.

This is a fairly new
computer ( got it in July ) and windows also recently got corrupted on it
and had to be uninstalled and reinstalled about 2 wks. ago.

Good luck.

Hi,
Try the Initial: 450MB
Max: 720MB
If that didn't help try to run this command:
sfc /scannow click [OK]
Also defrag in Safe Mode,
Are you sure the reading of your Available RAM is correct?.

thanks Nass.

Hi,
If you Right click My Computer and select Properties, on the system
properties click Advanced tab then click on Settings under Performance.

HTH.
Let us know.

Windows is not giving me any options to handle it, I just get the window that
pops up saying it requires 3 mb. virtual memory and thats it.
Have been told I have to install photoshop 4 before I can install and get 7
to work.

Now another strange problem, had to go to my laptop to read this answer for
when I go to this newsgroup on my other pc -from which I posted this
question- I see no threads in the newsgroup at all. Says at the bottom there
is an error on the page. The page is there but no threads, no q&a's.
Only thing I did diff. when I logged onto the newsgroup with that computer
was to allow popups from this site. How can I view the threads via that
computer now?
Anyway, maybe it is a glitch, the photoshop deal is more important to me at
the moment.
Thank you !

Hi guys,

trying to load photoshop 4.0 then onto 7.0.

In your situation I will leave windows to handle it, and what the Ver 4.0
then Ver 7.0 are you upgrading or installing two applications for the same
product?.
