I have had major issues with my XP install and need to fomat and reinstall
Windows XP Home to drive C: my drive has 3 partitions C, D and E. D is where
all my backed up photos of me and my girlfriend are and all my music and i
NEED to keep D in tact. If i format C and install XP on C can someone tell me
if D will remain in tact AND be accessible when i eventually get back onto
Windows. Thanks.

Yes, If you format and install WinXP on C: then other partitions will
remain as they are unless your hardware is faulty in some other ways.
Though, I will say you are alright to reformat and install again.

As others have already mentioned this is possible. Check out the links they
posted for details. Once Windows isreinstalled you will probably have to
take ownership of the files before you can access them.

As others have said, you should be fine. However (and this is slightly OT)
you really need to do regular backups of your cherished data, regardless,
and before doing a reinstall of any sort, it's a good idea. You can pick up
a USB-attached hard drive for a song, and use NTBackup (which you can
probably install from your XP CD or recovery partition) or a simple batch
file using somehting like robocopy from the resource kit. Don't wait for an
accident to happen!
