Need to display a map in VB.Net application

Greetings,

I am looking for some type of functionality within or component that I
might be able to add to VB.NET to display maps in a stand alone VB.NET
application. Potentially this will include the display of a background
image and the overlay of vector layers ontop. I have looked at
MapObjects, MapPoint and Map Suite products, but thought there might
be something smaller and less expensive.
