Hello,

In my efforts to uninstall a software I need to delete some register keys.
No problem until I hit the LEGACY area. I'm guessing this is a leftover area
from when I upgraded the machine from XP to Vista.

In any event, when I try to delete the key I get an error: "Cannot delete
Lecagy_tivobeacon2. Error while deleting the key."

Someone suggested I need to change the ownership of the key in order to
delete it, but that's not working either. When I try I get the following
error: "Unable to save permission changes on Legacy_tivobeacon2. Access is
denied."

I am the administrator for the computer (and the only user) so I'm not sure
why I should get an Access is denied error.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Helen

Helen Are you running the registry editor in administrator elevated mode?

Click Start and type regedit.exe Right click the program and select the
Run As Administrator option.

In Vista, even though you are logged into an administrator account, you
still run with standard privileges and a program that needs admin privileges
will to be elevated by you.

Well that's pretty much what you have to do - ie take ownership of the key
and then give 'Administrators' or your user account 'Full Control'
permissons (ie that box is checked) - in that order.

If you search on microsoft.com you might find a step-by-step guide to the
procedure.

Trying in Safe Mode (press f8 soon after boot) is another possibility that
may help, if a particular process is preventing changes to the key [less
likely]
