need to abort XP repair installation

I had a working XP-PRO system which had some slowdown problems.
I decided to run a R repair reinstall within the XP-PRO CD.
The problem i have encountered is that the setup will crash for there is
some driver issue i think, then it restarts and whole thing repeats forever.
I want to abort the install or make it finish somehow (delete old dlls in
system32 folder.. is it a solution?) so i can get to my former desktop again.
(Need the old settings)

Thanks for advice Mike

I very much doubt you are going to be able to get back to your old
desktop at this point. If you had data on the hard drive that was not
backed up, start by rescuing it. Then test the hardware because failure
to install an operating system often is because of bad hardware. You
haven't given us enough information about your system, details of the
original problem ("slowdown problems" could mean anything from viruses
and spyware to failing memory), and what you've done to get a specific
answer.

If you don't know how to rescue your data or test hardware, please post
back to this thread for help. Include more details as noted above, too.

i have some malware maybe on my system
anyway the system was working.
I need to interrupt the install process. Because the system actually is
working but wont let me in now. The install crashes due to some hardware
detection issue.
in particular install phase normlaly screen flashes about 4 times while
initilaizing hardware - now on the first screen blink it crashes.

As I said, I think you're not going to be able to interrupt the install
process unless you can get into Safe Mode or possibly Last Known Good
Configuration. The malware would definitely cause a problem. At this
point, I think the most efficient thing to do is rescue any data that
you need and do a clean install. Here is a link to information about
doing a clean install:
