Last night installed Win2k on XP machine; Win2k runs fine but registry got
corrupted. Tried KB article, "How to Recover from a Corrupted Registry That
Prevents Windows XP from Starting" and found system hive file missing. After
several mis-starts, finally tried a repair re-install of XP. Now getting
isass.exe error, "returning password in error". Oh, boy! Do I have to do a
fresh install??

(you may have followed this chronology via my earlier posts - thanks to all
for guiding me to here. Now take me home!)

Assuming you can't boot you might try booting from your
XP disk and running 'FIXMBR'. I've never had a dual boot
system so this may not help in your case if you've
destroyed many system files. Also, don't forget
(assuming you haven't disabled it), SYSTEM RESTORE to an
earlier time before you made the change.

Good luck.
