need task killer

N

Nate

does there happen to be a good freeware task killer for xp?

It is not unusual to run into situations now (running xp for only 1
month with a new machine) where apps cannot be killed from task
manager. E.g., I clicked on an mp3 while the modem was dialing and now
the player (MiusicBox) is frozen. Task Manager will not end the task,
nor kill the process on the Processes tab.

Yeah, the reset button.

About 1,510,000 results for task killer in 0.33 seconds on Google.

If you know clicking on a mp3 while the modem is dialing freeze
"MiusicBox" (sic), why do you continue to do it?

I did that combination once, idiot. Other circumstances also result in
freezes. Is this newsgroup populated only by rude little boys? What's
the matter, did you get beat up at school again today, and they took
your lunch money? So you decide to make yourself feel better by being
rude on usenet?

There is KILL.EXE from the NT Resource Kit.

Process Explorer from Sysinternals.

I'm not the one that couldn't figure out how to do a simple Google
search!

Figures you'd be too moronic to figure out the difference between humor
and rude!
What's

your lunch money?

LOL! I wish I had the hairline I had then!
So you decide to make yourself feel better by being
rude on usenet?

LOL! So you decided to expose your idiocy on the USENET and didn't
think you'd get flamed for it? If you can't stand the fire, then get
the F^$K out of the kitchen!

XP Home or Pro? Pro includes the command line utility taskkill.exe. You
can use it to terminate a process. Type taskkill.exe /? at the command
prompt for parameters. Here's an article on taskkill -
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/taskkill.mspx.

PsKill (http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/pskill.shtml) is also
effective.

How is he being an idiot? He asked a simple question. The MSNGs are a
viable reference, just as good as Google, and when he has a question or a
problem, it's just as viable a solution to ask here as it is to do a Google
search. It doesn't make sense to tell the guy that he's dumb because he
chose one alternative over the other.

I mean, simple question, why *not* give him a simple answer? For the sake
of "humor"? Seems like if he's looking for a laugh he should turn on Comedy
Central, not Usenet. I'm just saying.

What a lack of humor you have.
I asked for a pointer to a good free one, idiot.

You ask for something that you're obviously too put out to find for
yourself and you have the nards to call other people names? Such
arrogance. This is a peer support group, no one here is obligated to
give you the time of day.

No. It's a place to go AFTER you have look for yourself, especially
with SIMPLE QUESTIONS!
It doesn't make sense to tell the guy
that he's dumb because he chose one alternative over the other.

You're right, he is an effin' lazy mother-effer. Wants the easy answers
handed to him on a silver platter.

Well part of helping people is teaching them how to figure sh*t out for
themselves, and sometimes a little negative reinforcement, with a
spoonful of humor make the medicine go down.

Give a moron a fish, and he eats for one meal. Teach a moron to fish,
and he eats for the rest of his life.

And you are just full of sh*t! I'll reply as I see fit. And what YOU
think about it, will NEVER enter into the equation of I deem suitable
for me to post, a$$hole!

Who the F^$K do you think YOU are, the effin' moderator or something?!

Ahem, HE is the one who started calling people idiots.
He asked a simple question.

He got a simple answer and a harmless joke at no extra charge.
The MSNGs are a
viable reference, just as good as Google,

Not for every question and frequently for such questions the answer is
to search for one because there are a LOT of them available. It is
obvious the guy didn't look for one himself or he'd have found one and
be using it by now, therefore no need for the question in the first place.
and when he has a question or a

search. It doesn't make sense to tell the guy that he's dumb because he

I mean, simple question, why *not* give him a simple answer?

He got it. The answer was there are a LOT of them out ther, find one and
try it. Only HE will know if it is suitable for HIS purposes. He didn't
like the answer I gave and resorted to calling me an idiot.
For the sake
of "humor"?

My little joke was niether insulting nor harmful in any way.
Seems like if he's looking for a laugh he should turn on Comedy
Central, not Usenet. I'm just saying.

Too bad. Usenet is usenet. You get all sorts of stuff here. Nobody's arm

You'll notice the OP didn't bother to thank or reply at all to the three
people who _did_ hand him answers on a silver platter either. That just
bolsters my impression that he must be a humorless, inappreciative,
arrogant and demanding twerp.

FWIW, I was not intending to be negative at all in the first place, just
implying that there were SO MANY Google hits on it that he's gonna have
to look and see for himself.

You weren't negative. Nate was just over-sensitive.

Like I said, sometimes negative reinforcement in called for! And I'm
just the kinda guy to dish it out! :)
