Need some advice - Wedding Registry

I am not a Frontpage guru by any means. I have done 2 websites that are
really not that involved. However, I was wanting to make a proposal to a
local retailer that has a briday registry service - thought this would be a
great use for a website. I know this is probably a really broad question and
I will take any answers, broad or otherwise that anyone wants to propose, but
is there a method of setting up some sort of online registry or catalog
without too much trouble that can be updated at the customer site perhaps?
It would seem that it would be really time consuming and not very current for
the retailer to try to get info to me as a web designer to update and maybe
there is something they could do onsite?
I hope I am making sense! I appreciate any help you can offer!
Thanks!

For starters why don't you Google 'web site bridal regestry' or something
like that to see other examples. Dept. stores might be doing it.
ETC

Oh believe me - I have SEEN and USED plenty of these sites.....
that doesn't answer my question though. I am wondering how to go about
creating one and having it be accessible in a user-friendly manner so that
someone in the store could load info into a database etc. to keep it updated

To do something like this is going to require knowledge of writing custom server-side scripting,
such as ASP, ASP.Net, PHP, CFM, etc. as well as working with a database. Which script and database
to use will be depending on the what is support by the web host.

This is going to be a job for a scripting language and database. If you are
working with a unix/linux server then you should look at php if you are
working with a windows server then you will look toward asp or asp.net.

Understand that this is moving in a new direction from simple web pages but
it can be done and with a little study you should be able to do it.

There are tons of resources out there and you possibly can even find an
application already out there that you can use. You might even find a free
one.

Check out the php scripts at:

www.hotscripts.com

you can also find asp scripts there and at: www.planet-source-code.com

There are plenty of books and tutorials on how to use these languages with
database files. (www.sitepoint.com I think has a book on using php with
mysql database files) Look around but again..... be ready for some learning
and work. For this first project you probably will not make much real money
as the learning time will eat into that..... BUT after you have done
one.... the next project will be gravy.

Good luck to you..........

thank you so much for the info. I am a really, really quick learner with
this stuff - but sometimes I just need pointing in the right direction. You
have been a lot of help! Have a wonderful day

I should warn you that all scripts posted at these places.... well are not
created equally.... be careful and look around.... especially look for
installation help as this can be a real issue when you are new... heck....
even when you are old!!! :)

You should be able to find something that will be close enough to your
needs.

Best to you......
