Need software for mapping local area

J

JM

Hello,

My church is looking for some software to map out clusters of our parish, so
we can assign areas to church council members. Why they want to computerize
it, instead of drawing it on Yahoo! printout is anybody's guess.

Please let me know of anything that might be appropriate for this.

Thank you,

jm

1/ get a map (from GoogleEarth, a mapping server)
if it is pixeled - vectorise it so you get a boundary data set

2/ download a free cartography program
http://www.mapmaker.com/

3/ learn to draw a map

4/ draw the map

5/ establish a bill

6/ tell your church people they don't know what they demand for.
clapping into the hands and a map comes up. naive

I appreciate when a church tries to work in a professional style. But
they should know if they have the resources for what they want.

You need a computerised map only if you want to redo the drawing every
five weeks. if not, copy a map, take a pencil and draw points and
circles. It's so simple as that.

I am trained as a social geographer. If you want to create maps in a way
that lay map readers can understand the map in no time you need TIME.

Asks your people why they need a COMPUTERISED map and which amount of
energy, time, money they are ready to invest in.
