ok, here is my problem, its pretty bad. for some reason, i downloaded what i
thought was th sp2 from an unamed source, when i was installing it, i got an
error and it said that explorer.exe (windows) needed to close. so i said ok,
then i restarted my comp. next thing i know, windows wont open, i only get
the error. so i installed again (new system files), now i can go into windows
under this second installation. however, none of my pictures are on there or
music and the like. cant even connect to the internet. So i try to repair
the first XP using my gateway installation disc! This allows my access back
into my old windows however now there are some programs that wont open and my
internet connection is really slow, half the time i have to refresh about a
hundred times to get a page to open. took two hours to get to the point of
writing this message. Anyway, i did a virus scan using my software AVG 7,
then downloaded a trial copy of trend pc-cillin. in these two scans,
together they found about 1200 viruses all that could be and were wiped, or
deleted. Now i get this little warning from Trend that says it detects
virus MS04-011, i have downloaded the patch from microsoft. but it doesnt
install, in fact nothing installs, i have a constant icon that say NEW
WINDOWS UPDATES READY TO BE DOWNLOADED, i download them and install them, two
seconds later the same update (by number) wants me to re-update. I am unsure
what is going on with my PC. CAN ANYONE HELP?

Hi ... I would say because you had or still have many
virus it has cause you to repair and delete some files in
which now windows can't run right ... If i was you try to
get as much as you can from your computer data as
possible and then do a reformat on the hard drive ...
Hopefully that will make your computer run a lot more
smoother ... Have a look at these sites below they can

From what you say, and have done, I think you might be better advised to
take yr pc to a prof.shop, and have it completely formated and clean
installed, and updated
god only knows why you tried to update from an unknown source.
There is a simple method to check for updates, either from Start menu, or
within IE Tools
You cannot, or at least are advised not to attempt to run two AV apps on the
same pc, they can conflict.

Hi:

In addition to the advises, you may also want to:

(1) Spend some money to buy anti-virus and personal firewall, a worthwhile
investments in the long term,

(2) Purchase a second hard disk since the first one is so messy now,

(3) Insert the new one as the primary and remove the old hard drive, and
perform a clean installation of XP on the new one,

(4) Install and update all drivers and run all updates for the Windows XP
before doing anything else, including SP2,

(5) Install anti-virus and personal firewall, and run updates and make it
current and to make sure your system is in a clean state and set to protect
your system from now on,

(6) Install any other applications and spyware protection application and so
on,

(7) After your system is in working and protected state, you can shut down
and insert the second hard disk as the secondary (slave) hard disk,

(8) Re-boot, and use your anti-virus and spyware remove application to scan
the secondary hard disk and remove any viruses and worms left if any,

(9) Backup documents and files from the secondary hard drive to other media
or the primary one,

(10) You can reformat the secondary hard drive as an additional hard drive.

Based on what you have described, continue working on the current system may
not give you any goods but also might be dangerous. Get all important files
out as soon as possible before it has gone.

Hope this will help.

Whe others have suggested bug fixes, but i will give you
a recomendation. If you are getting something that will
re-write on your OS, i wouldn't use anything but MS. The
only thing I would download from somewhere else, are
apps, pics, music and such I don't know whether everyone
will agree with me or not, but this may save you in the
future.

Followed closely by *full* virus and adware checks on all your saved
stuff *before* you put it back on your machine.
