Need info on Check Disk & Defrag

Marsha

Hello,
I need some information about Check Disk. When I run the Check Disk
application should I check both Automatically fix file system errors and
Scan for and attempt to recover bad sectors? What steps should be done
before Check Disk & Defragment? How often should I run these applications
on a home computer? Should I analyze before defrag? All of this is
confusing.
Thanks,
Marsha

Hi Marsha, go through this tutorial on How to run Check Disk and
Defragment.
http://www.pctechguide.com/tutorials/HDDMaint.htm#Scope
Its advisable to run the disk cleanup tool ( also explained in the
link) before you defrag. You need atleast 15% free space for defrag.
Normally when u analyze the drive it will tell you whether or not it
needs to be defragged. In any case keeping the drive clean and
defragmented will help the system run smooth and fast.

I have a few more questions. What should I look for in the Defrag report?
Where do I find the Chkdsk report when it is finished to view the exit code?
I run Chkdsk in My Computer & only got a pop up box at the end saying the
Chkdsk was finished.
Thank you kenchi for your information.
