hey

I am running windows xp home+sp2 on a computer, just this morning, when the
computer booted, it said that

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

winroot\system32\svchost.exe

Please re-install a copy of the file above.

Did anyone experienced this before? or knows how to fix this?

Thank You

We experienced this on a computer last week. The hard drive had died and
had to be replaced.

Could he a pending hard disk failure. Obtain the WinXP CDROM and run a
'repair' procedure - see if that fixes it. Yes - you must use a WinXP Home
Edition CDROM and not a Pro CDROM. Don't have the WinXP CROM? Borrow a
friends to perform the 'repair' process. No friends? You can also recover
using a Pre Execution CDROM such as BartPE (but this assumes a certain level
of technical know-how). No way to create the BartPE CDROM? Hmnnn... I'd have
to think about this one...

This can sometimes be cause by a sudden loss of power while the OS is up.
But in most cases, it signals a failing hard disk :(

Cheers!
