Need help with Importing Contacts

I had over 2000 contacts to import into Outlook 2002. When I imported, I
only had three column to import name, phone and fax number. I mapped these
to Name, business phone and business fax in Outlook. However, when using
these contacts by found out that in the contacts cards it filled the email
filed with a concactenation of name and phone number and the ampersand sign
in between. When using VSI fax to fax out using one of these contacts it
hung up the server. Can you explain this. Can you explain the difference
between the contacts and the phone list? This email does not appear on the
phone list. What am I doing wrong? Any insight will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Impossible to know what you did wrong.
You did not describe clearly what you did.
Do so. Specify the file format from which you were importing and how you did
so.

I simply followed the Import Wizard in Outlook. I imported using another
application, "Excel". Before importing the Excel file, I defined the data.
The wizard did the rest. Does this help? Is there a way around this? There
will be others who need this list also and we would have to type each one
individually.

So this was an XLS file? CSV file? Something else?
Specify how your named your range and mapped your fields.
The Import Wizard would not map a phone number to the Email field if you
mapped correctly. If you want to get an idea of how to map to Outlook,
export some Contact to Excel and see how the fields are mapped there.
