Need help with formatting form fill field

P

I have a number of form fill fields in a word document. Some of these
fill in fields are left blank from time to time. When they are left
blank, they print with a short underline or short line. The fields
that are not left blank automatically adjust to underline just the
length of data in the fill field. Is there a way I can lengthen that
line on a particular field to print when the field is left blank?
Thanks for your help!

An "empty" form field actually contains five space characters (like
pressing the space bar five times). So, yes, it should be possible by
entering more spaces in the field. Can you test that to see whether it
works? And how many you need for a field?

You can then have a macro that loops through all the fields, determines
their content, and sets the field result to the required number of
spaces.
