Need help w/ boot up status bar "locking" - but then continues

Hi

I just installed WIN XP Pro - fresh install.

Problem:

During boot up, when I get to the black XP screen...the one with the
logo and the blue status bar thing (like "KIT" had in the Knight Rider,
only blue), the system hangs for a while. The blue bar thingy will go
from left to right 1 to 2 times and then just stop. The system doesn't
appear to be doing anything. Then about a minute later in continues
with the boot and takes me to the desktop (presumably with no
problems).

Does anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this baby? I'd like
to know if some device is holding it up...

SUCCESS! Okay...i figured out what the problem was. I unplugged my
CD-ROM and everything is super! Boot time went from about 1 minute to
around 15 -20 seconds.

Any workarounds for the CD ROM problem? Is is a bit old...maybe 3 or 4
years old...but I would like to use it.
