First, change the boot sequence to make the CD-rom become the 1st boot device
Try boot into BIOS and click the Boot tab, you can change the boot sequence there
Then insert the original XP CD into the CD-rom drive. Save and exit the BIOS settings
After POST, when the "press any key to boot from the CD" appeared, press the space bar immmediatel
to boot from the CD. You may only have 1 to 2 seconds to do so.
If you missed the chance to boot from the CD, just restart the PC and press the space bar continuousl
until it boot from the CD
Follow Michael Stevens suggestion to format the HDD and clean install XP from scratch

The XP CD is bootable, you boot from the CD and do a clean install
