Need help installing windows defender please!

Hi,

I hope someone out there can help me; I have been trying to install WD but
every time I get a message saying it can't install because windows does not
recognise the program. I am then clueless about what to do next. Is this a
problem with my computer?

Like other people I had to uninstall the other version I had, so am now
undefended and a bit nervous about it! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

This is my first time posting & as usual with postings I'm having a problem.
I was trying to post a new thread but it doesn't/or maybe I just don't know
how to do it. I click on new/question and nothing happens.

Anyway here's the problem I'm having.
I had Windows Defender installed. When I went to upgrade the instructions
said I had to uninstall the version I had - which I did - no problem. I went
through the validation & again no problem. When I was finally able to install
(after several trys) when I click the install button I get an error message
stating that "This installation package in not supported by this processor
type." I'm running Windows XP Professional Service pack 2. My desktop
computer is almost 2 yrs old.

Should I just completely forget about Windows Defender and go to another
program or can someone help.

Thanks

Hello Yita,

Please go back to the download site and do a new download.

Save the downloaded file to the desktop, so that you can see the name.

The proper download should be windowsdefender.msi.

Do not download the 64-bit version unless you are running a 64-bit version
of XP.

For the benefit of the community reading this post, please rate the pºst.

I hope this post is helpful.

Let us know how it works ºut.

Hello poren,

Whatever you do, (installing and updateting or unistalling) always as a
administratºr.
This is the key!
The installation as an admin is not enough.
You needed to login as an Adm!n!stratºr.

Can you gº to Windows Update, select Express (Get high-priority updates),
and apply all offered updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature update
with windows defender will fail until you hªve these f!les.
