Need help for today!

I'm a tech and I've got a call to go on today. I get all my orders by email,
and this description of this job confused me. Here is the description they
sent me, any ideas would be appreciated!

Here it is:

Win 2k PC: Upon bootup, you can hear the startup jingle, then task bar
appears for a moment, then disappears and never gets to the desktop...and
that's it. Ctrl-alt-del works, so the task manager appears...

Use task manager /New task to get explorer working
Ask them to try F8 to get into safe mode
Possible virus activity or malicious spyware
