I am moving to a different computer and need to instal a full version of XP,
home edition. The old disk is broken, but I still have the license, etc.
Where can I download the software to create a bootable CD? Thanks.

There is no such legitimate download. The better alternative is to
borrow a Windows XP cdrom of the same version as the broken one and
make an exact duplicate copy of it. The assumption is made, of course,
that the present version of Windows XP Home Edition is not OEM.

that can still be done if the borrowed CD is OEM - I did that very same
thing myself on the computer I am sending this from. the vendor provided a
Recovery CD that failed the second time I went to use it - they wanted £50
for a replacement. I borrowed an OEM Pro CD, copied it, and re-installed
Windows using my Product key. It activated over the internet first time.....

You can't. Is the version retail or OEM? If retail and you have proof of
purchase see this article.

In lieu of this, for retail find someone that has the same version of XP,
Home - Pro - Media Center, and copy their CD.

If it's OEM, by the license an OEM version is tied to the first computer on
which it's installed and can't be moved to a different system. If the
original computer dies the license dies with it.

The Op can still copy an OEM Cd and use his key - it's the LICENCE that is
attached to the machine, not the CD.....

You are correct, in that it's the license that ties it to the first
computer, and that means whatever computer that product key was used on.
The rest of what you write is correct with respect to reinstalling on the
_same_ computer, but whether it's the original CD or a copied CD, that
product key cannot, by the license agreement, be used on a different
computer, which is what the OP wants to do. If he has a retail version of
XP, fine, if it's OEM, no.

There is no legitimate source for such a download, unless you happen to
have a very expensive MSDN subscription.

I missed that bit.....
